What is the NCDRC?
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) is a national-level tribunal established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Its primary role is to adjudicate consumer complaints and ensure swift and fair resolution of disputes between consumers and service/product providers. The NCDRC is located in New Delhi.
Vacancy Details
There are two (02) anticipated vacancies for the position of Member in the NCDRC. The Member roles play a crucial part in adjudicating consumer complaints, offering a significant opportunity for professionals in the legal and administrative fields.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the position of Member in the NCDRC, candidates must meet the following criteria as per the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021:
- Professional Background:
- The candidate must have:
- Served as a Judge of a High Court, or
- Been a District Judge or Additional District Judge for a combined period of at least 10 years, or
- Have special knowledge and 25 years of professional experience in areas such as economics, business, commerce, law, finance, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs, or administration.

- Age Requirement:
- The candidate must be 50 years or older as of the last date of application submission.
Selection Process
The selection of the NCDRC Member is conducted by a Search-Cum-Selection Committee as constituted under the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021. The committee will:
- Scrutinize applications based on qualifications and experience.
- Shortlist candidates for personal interaction.
- Make a final selection based on an overall evaluation of the candidates’ qualifications, experience, and performance during the interaction.
Current NCDRC Members are eligible for reappointment under the same selection process.

For government officers and employees of PSUs or autonomous bodies, a signed copy of the online application must be sent through the proper channel to the Under Secretary (CPU), Department of Consumer Affairs along with necessary documents such as ACR/APAR dossiers, cadre clearance, and integrity certificates.
Important Documents Required:
- Certificate from the employer (as per Annexure-I)
- Photocopies of ACR/APAR dossier of the last five years
- Cadre clearance
- Integrity certificate
- Statement of penalties (if any) imposed on the officer during the last 10 years
- For retired officers, a No Inquiry Certificate from the last employer must be submitted.
Important Notes
- The last date for submitting the online application is October 16, 2024.
- No TA/DA will be provided for interviews.
- Selected candidates must resign or opt for voluntary retirement from their current positions before joining the NCDRC.
- The Department of Consumer Affairs reserves the right to cancel or amend the vacancy without prior notice.
