Law Commission of India Internship Programme for Law Students

The Law Commission of India provides an excellent opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience in legal research and contribute to law reform projects. Through its Summer (May-June), Winter (November-December), and Mid-Term Internship Programmes, the Law Commission allows students to work closely with experienced legal professionals and engage in critical legal work.

Eligibility Criteria

The internship programme is open to students pursuing LL.B., LL.M., or research studies at recognized law colleges or universities in India. The eligibility includes:

  • 2nd and 3rd-year students of a three-year LL.B. degree
  • 2nd to 5th-year students of a five-year integrated law degree

Programme Duration

The internship typically lasts for four weeks, but students may request an extension of up to two weeks, subject to approval.

Application Process

To apply, students must submit their applications by:

  • 1st April for the Summer Programme
  • 1st October for the Winter Programme
  • At least 30 days in advance for Mid-Term internships

Applications should be sent to the Assistant Law Officer at the Law Commission of India, Lok Nayak Bhavan, New Delhi. The submission must include a passport-size photo and a recommendation letter from the student’s department head after receiving the selection intimation.

Internship Activities

Interns will participate in a range of activities, including:

  • Legal research on specific topics
  • Presentation of research papers at the end of the internship
  • Preparation of study notes based on assigned topics

Interns are expected to maintain confidentiality regarding all facts and documents they encounter during their internship.

Certification

Upon successful completion, interns will receive a certificate based on their performance and submission of a research paper or notes.
