Submissions Closed for Supreme Court Hackathon 2024: Next Steps for AI-Based Registry Solutions

The Supreme Court Hackathon 2024 is a special initiative designed to bring innovative technology into the daily functions of the Supreme Court of India. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Court’s establishment, the hackathon is focused on AI-based solutions to improve the efficiency of the Supreme Court’s Registry.

The Registry is responsible for managing court documents, case details, and ensuring that the filing of cases follows proper procedures. The aim of the Hackathon is to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to make these tasks faster and more accurate, bringing technological advancements to the judicial system.

Problem Statements

Participants in Hackathon 2024 were invited to propose solutions to two main challenges:

  1. AI for data extraction – Developing an AI model to extract important data from petitions, legal provisions, and case documents to help in scrutiny and error-checking of cases.
  2. AI conversational chatbot – Designing an AI chatbot that can communicate in English and regional Indian languages to answer queries related to case information and summarize court judgments.

What Happens Next?

With submissions now closed, shortlisted candidates will be presenting their Proof of Concept (PoC) to a panel of experts on October 19, 2024. The panel will evaluate the ideas based on criteria like innovation, user-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness. The winners will receive trophies and certificates, while their AI solutions may be implemented in the Supreme Court’s daily operations.

This Hackathon represents a unique opportunity for AI and tech experts to contribute to the judicial system, making the work of the Supreme Court smoother and more efficient.
