Advocates-on-Record (AOR) Examination June 2025: Key Highlights and Guidelines

The Supreme Court of India has officially announced the schedule and essential details for the Advocates-on-Record (AOR) Examination – June 2025. As per the notification dated April 9, 2025, the examination will be conducted on 16th, 17th, 20th, and 21st June 2025 at New Delhi.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, advocates must have completed one year of continuous training under a designated Advocate-on-Record ending on or before 30th April 2025. Training must begin after the fourth year from the date of enrolment with a State Bar Council.

Application Process

  • Application forms can be submitted between 15th April and 30th April 2025 (5:00 PM deadline) at the AOR Examination Cell, Room No. 307, B-Block, Supreme Court Administrative Complex, New Delhi.
  • Scanned applications can be emailed to: advocate-on-record@sci.nic.in, but submission is valid only upon receipt of hard copy.
  • A fee of ₹750/- must be deposited in the UCO Bank (Supreme Court Compound) using the prescribed bank details.

Examination Format

The AOR Exam 2025 will be conducted in Pen & Paper mode only and consists of four papers:

  1. Paper I: Practice & Procedure
  2. Paper II: Drafting (includes SLPs, bail applications, transfer petitions, review petitions, writs, etc.)
  3. Paper III: Professional Ethics & Advocacy (covering BCI rules, duties, misconduct, ethical frameworks)
  4. Paper IV: Leading Cases (headnotes provided during the exam)

Key Guidelines

  • A maximum of five attempts are allowed. However, the December 2021 exam will not count as a chance, giving a one-time relaxation.
  • Missing any paper after allocation of roll number counts as not sufficiently prepared and requires special permission for future attempts.
  • Re-evaluation is not permitted.
  • Candidates failing all papers are barred from the next exam.

Paper IV: Leading Cases

The syllabus has been extended to 86 landmark Supreme Court judgments ranging from Kesavananda Bharati to Article 370 and Electoral Bond Scheme decisions. Headnotes will be provided in the exam hall and must be returned after the exam.
